Hawthorne PD: Car Thieves From NYC Captured After Fleeing In Different Directions
Four out-of-state men who’d stolen a car in Hawthorne and tried to flee on foot were nabbed -- including one who ran along Route 208 into Glen Rock, authorities said. Hawthorne officers headed to a call of vehicles being cased by four young men spotted the suspects on 8th Avenue near Rea Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. last Wednesday. The quartet all split up and ran as the officers approached, Detective Lt. Matthew Hoogmoed said. Route 208 Closed By Downed Power Lines, Cluster Of Brush Fires Doused
Power lines that fell across Route 208 closed the highway in both directions and ignited several small noontime brush fires. Massive jams stretched beyond eyesight in each direction as police detoured traffic at De Boer Drive in Glen Rock, where the wires fell around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and Rea Avenue in Hawthorne. Hawthorne, Glen Rock Officers Capture Quartet Who Crashed Stolen Ridgewood Lexus
Hawthorne and Glen Rock police captured a quartet of juveniles from three counties -- two of them 15 years old -- after they crashed a Lexus stolen out of Ridgewood during a brief overnight chase Monday. Glen Rock police tried to stop the car, but the driver hit the gas and continued into Hawthorne, crashing on Parker Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m., Hawthorne Police Capt. Robert King said.
