Multiple departments descended at 37 Old Route 22 in Clinton at 8:39 p.m. for the fiery fire, which initially began on the roof of the Open Cupboard Food Pantry, Clinton Police Chief Cory Kubinak said. The fire rapidly spread to Walgreens, Kubinak said. Just Subs, J&D Wine and Spirits and Ihling’s, also located in the plaza, sustained lesser damage, Kubinak said.

The front facade of the Walgreens collapsed, according to video of the scene.

Walgreens was occupied when the fire began but was evacuated without incident, Kubinak said. One firefighter was taken to Hunterdon Medical Center but was released. The fire is being investigated by the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office, Town Fire Marshal Jack Daniels and police, Kubinak said.
