Man Found Shot Dead In Car On Paterson Street
A man was found shot dead before dawn in a parked car on a Paterson street, and authorities haven't yet said whether or not they consider it suspicious. They're seeking witnesses. The man, whom authorities were trying to identify, was found by officers acting on a tip in the area of Route 19 and Ward Street shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Two Dead, One Hurt In Newark Crash
Two people died and one person was hurt in a Newark crash over the weekend. Two vehicles collided on Route 1&9 around 2:40 a.m., near mile marker 49.6, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said. A passenger in one vehicle died at the scene, and the driver of that vehicle was taken to University Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the second car died at the scene. Rahway Driver Dead In Elizabeth Crash
One person died in a crash at an Elizabeth intersection over the weekend, authorities said. A Pennsylvania man was in a Jeep Gladiator at the intersection of Route 1&9 and Maple Avenue, when the light turned green and he drove east around 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, city spokeswoman Ruby Contreras said. As he continued, the driver struck a northbound Honda driven by a Rahway man, who died at the scene. The Honda passenger was taken to University Hospital in Newark in critical condition. The Bergen County owner of a Paterson strip club sexually assaulted one of his dancers, authorities charged. John Acunto, 62, of Ho-Ho-Kus was arrested in connection with a series of incidents in a "VIP room" at Johnny A’s Hitching Post on Barclay Avenue just off Valley Road and Route 19, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said. Woman Pinned By Truck, Killed On Route 1&9
A woman was struck and killed by a tractor trailer early Wednesday in Elizabeth. The incident occurred on Route 1&9 near East Jersey Street around 4:10 a.m., responders told Daily Voice. The victim appeared to have gotten pinned under the truck's tires. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Motorcyclist Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On Route 1&9
A motorcyclist died in a wrong-way crash on Route 1&9 in Elizabeth early Saturday morning. The crash occurred on the northbound side near the Renaissance Hotel around 3:15 a.m. The motorcyclist apparently struck a car head-on and was ejected from his bike.

Police Trying To ID Woman Struck, Killed By Car In Elizabeth
Authorities on Tuesday morning were trying to identify a woman who was struck and killed by a car in Elizabeth Monday night. The woman was not carrying ID while trying to cross in the local lanes of the 1000 block of Route 1&9 (Spring Street) around 11:30 p.m., City Spokeswoman Kelly Martins said. The white female victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, responders said. The driver remained at the scene and cooperative.

Sinkhole Closes Route 19
A large sinkhole closed the southbound lanes of Route 19 at the Paterson/Clifton border Wednesday night. How long before the highway is reopened was anyone's guess. Responders said it could take hours or even days depending on the condition of a huge drainage pipe beneath the roadway. The hole began to open around 4 p.m., forcing a single lane closure. It widened until eventually all three lanes were compromised, responders said. Traffic was being detoured onto Valley Road to Marshall Street to South Broad Street back to the highway.
