This story has been updated One firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a four alarm fire that spread to two homes in Bayonne on Thursday, Sept. 21, authorities said. At 9:49 a.m, firefighters were on scene of a heavy fire in the rear of both 142 and 144 West 5th St., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. The fire was declared under control at 10:57 a.m., Weaver said. There were no injuries to any residents, while a firefighter was transported to a hospital for treatment of a minor injury, Weaver said. A firefighter was hospitalized during a blaze Monday at a warehouse off Routes 17 and 46 in Hasbrouck Heights. An Essex County Sheriff's Officer played the role of hero on Monday evening, June 19. At Branch Brook Park, a mother noticed her 4-year-old child was missing and notified a police officer, the Essex County Sheriff's Office said. Fallen Jet Skiers Rescued From Bayonne's New York Bay
A pair of jet skiers who had fallen off and were being swept away by the current were rescued from the New York Bay on Sunday, July 10. The call came in around 1:45 p.m. in Bayonne, and the couple was found by the Bayonne Cruiseport. Members of Royal Caribbean and Port Authority of NY/NJ tossed life things to the pair, trying to make it toward the shore. A Bayonne Fire Department marine unit put a rescue swimmer in the water, and firefighters were able to remove both victims safely.
