A Rockland County bicyclist was hospitalized after an SUV struck him on a Mahwah road a mile or so from the state line. The 40-something victim was "lucid and responsive at the scene" following the crash on Island Road at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, Mahwah Police Chief Timothy O'Hara said. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with multiple injuries, the chief said. It was a chaotic scene in Newark on the early morning of Monday, April 1. At 3:04 a.m., police responded to the 700 block of Sanford Avenue and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. While the man was being transported to a nearby hospital, the private vehicle he was in crashed into another car and then struck a light pole and transformer, overturning on its side, Fragé said. Video Shows 11-Year-Old Being Struck By Hit-Run Car In North Bergen
An 11-year-old child in North Bergen is okay after being struck by a car that subsequently fled the scene on Tuesday, Oct. 17, based on video posted online. The boy was crossing the street at 76th Street and Hudson Avenue when an SUV ran a stop sign, struck the kid and continued on without stopping. Police said they are investigating. Two teenagers were shot in Newark on Thursday, Oct. 12, authorities said. At 8:40 p.m., police responded to the 300 block of Goldsmith Avenue and found a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
