Irvington Man Shot Dead In Union A 22-year-old Irvington man was shot and killed in Union over the weekend, authorities said. Emmanuelle Florestal was found suffering gunshot wounds on the 2000 block of Morris Avenue around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital. There was no indication that this incident is related to a previous shooting that took place in Union the day before.  The Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Union Police Department are actively investigating both cases. SWAT Standoff Ends With Weapons Seized In Union Authorities said they seized several weapons after an hours-long SWAT standoff in Union ended peacefully Monday night. The home on Arnet Avenue off Morris Avenue was evacuated of family members in the standoff, which began around 7:40 p.m. with a report of a man armed with a shotgun barricaded inside, responders said. Longtime Union Christmas Tree Lot Loses Its Location, May Not Reopen For decades Christmas trees were sold at a spot in Union. But not this year.  In a Facebook post addressed to his "loyal and valued customers", Anthony Bentivegna announced that he will no longer be selling trees from a lot at 48 Morris Ave. "After 20 years," Bentivegna wrote, the landlord declined to renew his lease for the spot.  He managed to find a new location, but said a shortage may make it impossible for him to sell trees this year.  "I will keep you posted," Bentivegna also wrote.

A 52-year-old Fanwood man has been charged with death by auto while under the influence and assault by auto while under the influence in an incident that left an elderly woman dead and two others hurt, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said.  Authorities said Thomas DiNapoli was driving east on Morris Avenue in Union on the afternoon of June 4 when he crossed the double-yellow line and struck a Chevy Impala head-on.  The three occupants of the car were taken to Trinitas Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
