Kitty's Back: Elmwood Park Firefighter Rescues Frightened Feline From Smoky Blaze An Elmwood Park fire lieutenant rescued a cat caught in a weekend evening house blaze. The blaze broke out in the basement, with smoke pushing up to the second floor of the Oak Street home near Market Street around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, responders said. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames, preventing further damage. The fire was officially declared under control less than an hour after the call. Lt. Chris Gilmore found the frightened feline, who was brought outside, given oxygen and doing fine.

Max C. Zaccone, 28, "appeared heavily intoxicated and verbally and physically threatened officers" who responded to a dispute and were trying to sort things out at a Wallington Avenue home, Wallington Police Capt. Shawn Kudlacik said. "Pepper spray was deployed in effecting his arrest and two officers sustained injuries in the melee," Kudlacik said. "(Zaccone) also spit in officer's faces in the incident." Authorities: Ex-Con Charged With Murder In Shooting Outside Passaic High-Rise A dispute between ex-cons ended with one shooting and killing the other outside a Passaic housing complex, authorities said Wednesday. Detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Passaic police were assisted by federal agents when they captured Nysheem T. Mann, 32, during a traffic stop on Washington Street near Broadway in Paterson early Tuesday night, they said. Mann, of Paterson, was charged with gunning down Donyell Coley two days earlier in the parking lot at Speer Village, where the 41-year-old victim lived.
