Victims Scammed Out Of $2.2M By NJ Couple In 'Publishers Clearing House Lottery' Scheme: Cops
A couple from Secaucus is facing a litany of charges after scamming residents in multiple states out of more nearly $2.2 million, police said. Akeem Lee and Majda Hodzic-Lee called victims in Florida, Minnesota, Arizona, Kansas, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Nebraska, saying they'd won the "Publishers Clearing House Lottery," Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. NJ Rapper, 24, Killed In Crash En Route To Los Angeles, Producer Says
A 24-year-old West Orange rapper was killed in Kansas when his car crashed into a sign pilar while was he was driving on the highway on Wednesday, Jan. 10, authorities said. At 12:39 p.m., Damian Osborne was driving a 2004 Buick Century on the I-70 Turnpike in Leavenworth County, near Kansas City, when his vehicle "for unknown reason" left the roadway to the left and collided with the sign pillar, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Federal authorities announced that a recall initially reported in May has been expanded to include an additional 1.7 million travel irons after there were new reports of injuries. Kansas-based Vornado announced that it is now recalling upwards of two million Steamfast Home and Away Travel Steam Irons due to fire, burn, and shock hazards due to a faulty power cord. A Powerball ticket from the Saturday night, Feb. 4 drawing good for $1 million was sold in New Jersey. Given that no tickets matched all of the winning numbers, the Monday, Feb. 6 jackpot will climb to $747 million, according to lottery officials. Hackensack Teen Dead, Philly Man Among 2 Hurt In Kansas Crash
An 18-year-old New Jersey woman was killed and two others injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 70 in Kansas, authorities say. A rental box truck traveling west around 6:15 a.m. Monday, when it crossed into the center median several times and rolled over, according to Kansas Highway Patrol. Hackensack's Isabella L. Carroll died, while Joshua A. Mejias Ramos, 23, of Philadelphia, and Brian Cordero Nunez, 22, of Paterson suffered minor injuries, police say. It wasn't immediately clear who was behind the wheel.
