Man Gets 10 Years For Fatal Jersey City Crash: Prosecutors Jose Colon, a 33-year-old Jersey City man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for driving drunk in a crash that killed one person, authorities said. On Feb. 28, 2001, Colon was driving a 1996 Honda Civic at a high rate of speed on Christopher Columbus Drive near Merseles Street in Jersey City when he struck a guard rail, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. His passenger, 30-year-old Jesus Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene, Suarez said. Colon had pleaded guilty to first-degree death by auto for driving while intoxicated in April, Suarez said.

A 30-year-old Jersey City man was heading westbound and approaching the roadway split on Columbus Drive when his 1996 Honda Civic struck the attenuator-projected guardrail around 3:30 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The passenger, Jesus Gonzalez, 30, of Jersey City, was found lifeless at the scene.
