A 32-year-old Elizabeth man was sentenced to 11 years in state prison on Thursday, Feb. 8, for fatally striking a woman in the city and fleeing the scene in Aug. 2020, authorities said.
At 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2020, Elizabeth police responded to the Oakwood Apartment Complex on a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl Graves, and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca said. Upon arrival, found, Janaya Bailey, 22, who was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Maurice Pierce, 23-year-old Plainfield man was arrested on Monday, Sept. 25 and charged with murder in the shooting death of Jameer Outsey, a former college football player, back in August, authorities said.
On Sunday, Aug. 12, Elizabeth police responded to North Broad Street and Magnolia Avenue and found Outsey, a Bridgewater resident, suffering from a gunshot wound, Union County Prosecutor William A. An Elizabeth man has been arrested on accusations he bludgeoned a woman to death over the weekend, authorities announced.
Victor H. Rodriguez Gomez, 33, struck 30-year-old Carmen Lopez Barahona in the head, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl J. Graves, and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca said.
Barahona was found around 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 on the the 200 block of Lt. Glenn Zamorski Drive, and Gomez had fled the scene, police said.
