Route 3 Pedestrian Killed On Christmas
Investigators were trying to determine what a 31-year-old Passaic man who was struck and killed on Route 3 on Christmas Day was doing on the highway. Randy Rafael Reyes Duran was struck by a Tesla near Passaic Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi said in a brief announcement on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, they said, adding that the driver remained there. Authorities on Wednesday charged a 71-year-old Clifton man with bias intimidation for allegedly using racial slurs against a female neighbor. Antonio Delevante also was charged with harassment in connection with what authorities said was an Aug. 24 incident in the area of Graham Place and Atkins Court in Clifton. A 95-year-old woman and two fellow residents – 71 and 65 – were identified Saturday as the victims found dead in a Clifton house fire. Three firefighters, a Clifton police officer and a fourth resident also were injured in the blaze in a corner house on Ladwick Lane at Renaissance Drive near Van Houten Avenue in the city’s Athenia section on Nov. 18, authorities said. Authorities charged a Clifton man with attempted murder after they said he slashed another city resident earlier this month. Peter Perez, Jr., 21, wounded the 43-year-old victim at the corner of Sheridan and Wilson avenues shortly after 9 p.m. April 7, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. A Clifton man was charged with attempted murder in what prosecutors said was a bias attack on a Mexican grocery store clerk. Shairo Gil, 24, missed when he tried to stab the clerk at Barrales Grocery on Main Street in the chest, they said.
