Jessica Yorkovich, a longtime resident of Fanwood, died Friday at Hackensack University Medical Center. She was 26.

Born in Plainfield and raised in Fanwood, as a child she was diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a rare blood disorder. She had a bone-marrow transplant in October.

After graduating from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, she earned a degree in architecture from Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. An excellent student, her furniture design was ranked among the top 10 in her 2017 graduating class and was on display at the school. She also enjoyed the two semesters she spent abroad in Italy and loved travel.

Her other passions include animals. She enjoyed horseback riding lessons as a child in Watchung and was especially fond of dogs.

She is survived by her mother, Peggy Sommerich Yorkovich; her brothers, Alexander and Benjamin; aunts and uncles, Nancy, Bob, Donna, Gloria, Lori, Julie, Wayne and Bruce; and cousins, Michael, James, Thomas, Robert, Evan, Kelly, Julia and Caroline. She was predeceased by her father, William “Ron” Yorkovich, who died in January.

Visitation is Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a private internment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DBA Foundation, PO Box 1092, West Seneca, New York, 14224.
