Scotch Plains DWI Driver Had Been Sleeping For 18 Hours In Running Mercedes Benz, Police Say

A 43-year-old man from Scotch Plains who had been sleeping in his running SUV for more than 18 hours was drunk, authorities said.

Parsippany police were sent to perform a welfare check when they found the driver sleeping in his Mercedes Benz GL450 on Miriam Court on April 26 around 5 p.m., Chief Andrew Miller said.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and having open containers of alcohol in a vehicle. He was taken to headquarters for processing and released pending a court date.
