Police: Oakland Man Injured, Charged Playing Chicken With Freight Train
A 35-year-old Oakland man injured himself jumping out of the way of a freight train – and then was arrested, authorities said. The Oakland First Aid Squad treated the man for his injuries after he was nearly struck while with his dog near the Ramapo River shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Lt. Christian Eldridge said. Harmful Algae Blooms Found In These New Jersey Lakes
Harmful algal blooms have been reported in 32 lakes across the state as of Sept. 1 -- and some are calling for action. In total, two lakes were at a red “warning” level, 20 were orange “advisory” level and 10 were at a blue “watch” level (scroll down for the breakdown). Mahwah firefighters pulled the body of a 33-year-old Suffern man from the Ramapo River on Thursday. UPDATE: Authorities reported no casualties in a massive pre-dawn Christmas fire that ripped through a commercial building in Mahwah and continued burning hours after it broke out. What became a five-alarm blaze broke out around 4:40 a.m. at Arzee Building Supply on Franklin Turnpike next to the Ramapo River. HAWTHORNE, N.J. -- An off-roading Hawthorne driver and his passenger got out safely after surging waters pulled their Jeep into the Ramapo River in Suffern during Friday's storm. MAHWAH, N.J. -- Mahwah firefighters secured several propane tanks Saturday amid concerns that they'd float into the Ramapo River, which supplies water for millions of people in New Jersey and New York.
