UPDATE: A Toms River man admitted Friday that he killed his mother in front of his younger brother late last summer. Edgar Diaz, 18, of Manchester, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in Superior Court in Toms River in exchange for a 20-year prison term at a scheduled March 6 sentencing. He'll have to serve 17 years of that sentence before he'll be eligible for parole under New Jersey's No Early Release Act. Report: DWI Passaic County Driver Admits Running Over Friend At Strip Club
A 22-year-old woman from Pompton Lakes admitted that she ran over her friend in a Sussex County strip club parking lot, according to a published report. Jacqueline Lowe reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of .14 when she was arrested last October following the incident outside of the Bare Den on Route 206. Lowe pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court in Newton to second-degree aggravated assault and second-offense DWI, the NJHerald reports. Jersey City Man Gets More Than 40 Years For Brutally Killing Wife: Report
A man who stabbed his wife more than 70 times in a jealous rage at their Jersey City home two years ago was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison for murder and an additional 10 years for child endangerment, NJ.com reported. A 44-year-old Irvington man who was under the influence of alcohol when he fatally struck a pedestrian five years ago was sentenced to 14 years in prison, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said Friday. A panel of appellate judges Monday upheld the conviction of a Newark man sentenced to life in prison for fatally punching his 20-month-old daughter when the infant refused to eat. Travis Hartsfield was watching his daughter Asiyah on March 14, 2011, while the girl's mother was working a double shift. A former assistant karate instructor from Haskell faces a maximum of 40 in state prison after jurors in Paterson convicted him of raping a 9-year-old girl at the Pompton Lakes dojo where he worked and at her Bloomingdale home, authorities said.
