"The hard work and dedication they've been putting into their art is finally paying off for them and we as a student body couldn't be happier," said senior Leandra Cilindrello, who is also on the cheerleading team.
The Knights punched their ticket to the "big dance" by winning the Northeast Conference Championship against rival Wagner, 87-79, Tuesday night.
The Knights will find out who, when, and where they will play their NCAA Tournament game Sunday evening on CBS' Tournament Selection Show.
Coach Greg Herenda's team went 18-14 this year while being led on offense by sophomores Darian Anderson and Earl Potts Jr., who averaged 15 and 14 points respectively.
But students say the Knights team play is what got them into the tournament.
"They played cohesively and each game leading up to the championship they've had different players step up and make shots," said Natasha Ashby, a communications major. "Their hard work paid off. They deserved this."
"They all worked so hard to accomplish this and we are proud," added fellow communications major Jenny Diosa. "I can't wait to watch them in the tournament."
