The testing initiative began early in March, in response to reports that lead had been found in drinking water throughout the state.
Out of concern for the safety of students and staff, the district decided to test all sources of drinking and cooking water in its schools.
The Teaneck Board of Education approved Environmental Design to conduct the targeted assessments, in accordance with federal EPA standards, in all buildings.
The preliminary test results came back on Thursday, May 26.
In response to the results, the district has turned off every affected drinking fountain and posted signs at the sites.
Sinks that were affected will not be used for drinking or cooking.
The water sources will not be available again until a solution is implemented.
Once it is, the areas will be re-tested.
The full report is expected in about a week.
