The ramp from the eastbound express lanes to the northbound Turnpike was also closed after the ShopRite tractor-trailer slammed into the box truck at the DeGraw Avenue overpass just before 6:50 a.m., Trooper Alejandro Goez said.

Authorities initially intended to summon a medical chopper but canceled the call after Teaneck and Hackensack firefighters removed the driver from beneath the rig and an ALS unit from Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck pronounced him dead, responders said.

The express lanes were reopened about four hours later.
