TEANECK, N.J. -- A Paterson man being held in connection with two dozen car burglaries in Clifton struck a Teaneck priest in the chest during a series break-ins at two churches and two schools, authorities said Tuesday.

Robert Quinones, 43, struck the Church of Saint Anastasia priest who confronted him in an office just before 10 p.m. last July 5 and then fled, Police Chief Robert A. Carney said.

Responding officers found nine offices broken into at the Teaneck Road church, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage, the chief said.

Also left behind was blood left after the intruder broke a glass portion of an exterior door to get in, he said.

Moments later, The Community School across the street was burglarized, Carney said.

Police from Teaneck and Englewood "discovered a broken window on the south side of the building and blood stains on the blinds," he said.

Minutes later, another burglar alarm sounded at the Community School around the corner on WEst Forest Avenue.

Police found an open window, Carney said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to collect evidence and assist with the investigation, he said.

Two days later, police were back at Saint Anastasia to investigate a criminal mischief report -- and found two windows that apparently were broken during an attempted burglary.

Last week, the results of DNA analysis tests on the blood at the New Jersey State Police Laboratory pointed to Quinones.

Teaneck detectives interviewed him at the Passaic County Jail, then charged Quinones with robbery, two counts of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, attempted burglary and possession of burglar's tools.

A detaine was placed on Quinones, with bail of $20,000 bail, in case he is eligible for release from Passaic County. A May 11 date in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack was scheduled.
