TEANECK, N.J. -- A chain-reaction crash caused when a vehicle rear-ended a Teaneck police car sent an officer to the hospital with neck pain, Police Chief Robert Carney told Daily Voice.

The officer was headed east on Cedar Lane when he stopped his cruiser for pedestrians in the crosswalk at Red Road at 8:43 p.m. Thursday when it was struck from behind, Carney said.

The other driver "was unable to stop in time and therefore had to swerve to the right to avoid colliding with the police car," the chief said.

The driver of a second car behind that one "was also unable to stop and struck the first vehicle as well as the police car," he said.

There were no other injuries, the chief said.
