Lt. Kevin Marrero stopped the car for a traffic violation on Windsor Road near the intersection of Beatrice Street just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
While talking with the driver, the lieutenant smelled the drugs, Acting Police Chief Glenn M. O’Reilly said.
Officer Philip Apreda responded as backup and all of the occupants were ordered out of the vehicle, O’Reilly said.
Passenger Tariq N. Bryant, 22, of Durham, NC, who at first gave a false name, was carrying marijuana – and a .25-caliber handgun loaded with two rounds of ammunition, the acting chief said.
Another passenger, 23-year-old Tamara E. Stewart of Teaneck, “refused to comply with Officer Apreda’s commands and had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle,” he said.
The driver received motor vehicle summonses and was released, O’Reilly said.
Stewart was charged with obstruction and hindering and also released pending a Feb. 8 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
Bryant – who records show has a drug arrest history in Bergen County – was ordered held on $1,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a first court appearance.
He was charged with a variety of weapons and offenses, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, O’Reilly said.
