Detectives Kevin Brennan and Ronald Boswell were driving west on Hubert Terrace the night of Dec. 27 when they spotted Ramadhan Muhammad, Acting Police Chief Glenn M. O’Reilly said.
The results of a fingerprint analysis returned a few days earlier linked Muhammad to a Sept. 22, 2013 break-in on Cane Street, O’Reilly said.
Spotting the detectives, Muhammad cut through Argonne Park, the chief said.
Officer Craig Luebeck was on the park’s east side, however, and alerted them that Muhammad was in the area of Spruce Street and Schoonmaker Road.
The detectives moved in and seized Muhammad without incident, O’Reilly said.
Nearby was a black and bright orange Quicksilver fanny pack that Muhammad had tossed away, he said.
Inside it, the chief said, was a a Glock 22 .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with 15 rounds of ammo.
A judge ordered Muhammad held on $10,000 bail, which he quickly posted, records show.
He was charged with various weapons counts – including being a felon in possession of a firearm – as well as tampering with evidence.
A Jan. 11 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack was scheduled.
