PSE&G: Source of gas odor in several towns unknown

UPDATE: As of mid-afternoon, PSE&G crews were unable to pinpoint the source of natural gas odors reported in and around Teaneck this morning.

“We’ve checked several homes and haven’t found anything,” PSE&G’s Christine Lloyd told CLIFFVIEW PILOT just before 2 p.m.

“We haven’t determined that it’s not gas, but all of the areas we’ve checked haven’t had readings for gas,” she said. “We’re thinking it must have come in from another location, but we still don’t know what that is.

“It’s begun to dissipate, however, so we might not be able to find out.”

An initial three dozen or so reports came in around 9 a.m. from Teaneck, Dumont and Bergenfield, as well as from the Bogota border and as far north as Cresskill.

Lloyd said it’s possible that a company released some gas, through a routine process known as venting, “but there is nothing we can link to that just yet.”
