Everett Abney, 42, of Edison, pleaded guilty to criminal possession of the images, which could put him in federal prison for several years.
Abney was a coach for Edison’s Midtown National Little League when federal agents interviewed him at his home February 4, 2009.
During a review of his computer, investigators found several hundred images of child pornography, including multiple depictions of prepubescent minors.
Abney told U.S. District Court Judge Stanley Chesler today the he trolled the Internet for the images for nearly 18 months, then downloaded and saved them to his computer, sometimes using file sharing.
Chesler continued Abney’s $100,000 bail until sentencing, scheduled for Oct. 14. A condition of that bail is that Abney have no contact with minors.
U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman credited the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark, and Assistant U.S. Lee Vartan of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Newark, who prosecuted the case, with securing the plea.
