“Senior Safety: What Seniors Need To Know” is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Five Star Premier Residences of Teaneck on Pomander Walk.
Teaneck residents age 55 and up are invited. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Consumer and public safety professionals will answer questions from the audience.
“Identity theft and identity fraud, types of crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another person’s personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, are becoming more prevalent in today’s technologically advanced society,” said Teaneck Councilman Elie Katz.
“We need to be on the lookout for this type of problem, especially as it relates to our senior population,” said Katz, who arranged the event along with Councilman Yitz Stern.
“Many people do not realize how easily criminals can obtain our personal data without having to break into our homes,” Stern said. “Identity theft can happen to anyone but with a little thought and planning, we can protect ourselves from many threats.”
