Bergen County absentee ballots tear in machine, some results could take days

EXCLUSIVE REPORT: Bergen County elections officials might need until Thursday to count up the absentee ballots, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned. That could leave some local races up in the air until then.

The ballots were folded incorrectly and were tearing in the tallying machine, three separate sources confirmed tonight.

“The crease in the ballot is getting jammed in the machine, and the workers have to manually tape them together and run them back through,” a source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

As of 9 p.m., less than a third of the 30,000 ballots were officially counted.

“We won’t have some numbers until tomorrow,” Board of Elections Secretary Rich Miller told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
