Teaneck police identified the suspects following a series of burglaries at “high-end residences in Bergen County and surrounding areas,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
Chief of Detectives Steven Cucciniello assembled a task force of officers from Teneack, Englewood, Tenafly, Mahwah, and River Edge, as well as from Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino’s department and the Rockland County Intelligence Squad.
The detectives were following the trio Thursday night as they headed into Somerset County, casing homes to burglarize, Molinelli said.
A Basking Ridge homeowner scared them from their first target, but the crew hit a house in Bridgewater, cutting the phone lines to kill the burglar arm, then forcing open the front door of an unoccupied residence, the prosecutor said.
After ransacking the place, the trio took off with the goods — and were stopped moments later on Route 22 in Green Brook by members of the task force, along with the Bridgewater and Green Brook police departments, Molinelli said.
Task force members said they found more than $75,000 worth of jewelry inside the vehicle, along with the safe, the pillowcase and a trove of burglary tools — including ski masks, gloves, and walkie-talkies. The safe also had personal documents inside, Molinelli said.
Arrested were Diandre Mikell, 34, Jason Mikell, 40, and Jerry Montgomery, 30.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office charged all three with burglary, theft, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of burglary tool, criminal mischief and resisting arrest in connection with the burglary in Bridgewater.
Each was being held on $75,000 bail at the Somerset County Jail.
