Detectives investigating the January 2013 attempt found evidence that they sent to the New Jersey State Police lab for testing, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said this afternoon. It came back to a nearby resident who Torell said police spent months searching for.
Last night, with the assistance of Teaneck Detectives Edward Kazmierczak and Kevin Brennan, Englewood detectives finally found her.
She, in turn, led them to convicted felon Andre Kirkland, 48, of Teaneck, Torell said.
Kirkland was arrested without incident by Kazmierczak, Brandon, Englewood Detective Sgt. Chris Kedersha and Englewood Detectives Barry Miller and Zellvon Lucas, he said.
He was limping, Torell said — the apparent result of falling from the roof and shattering his heel after the burglar alarm sounded.
Kirkland used a ladder to get to the roof of a luncheonette in the city’s north West Hudson Avenue business district, then tried to pry his way in, captain said. When the burglar alarm sounded, he scrambled and fell to the ground, Torell said.
He called it “a pretty high price to pay for a burglary attempt on a mom-and-pop store.”
Kirkland was being held on $15,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with attempted burglary and attempted criminal mischief.
