Individuals that lose 5 percent to 10 percent of their body weight benefit health-wise, said the New York Times.

The study involved a clinical trial of 40 obese people who were selected at random with indications of insulin resistance who went on diets to lose 5 percent, 10 percent or 15 percent of their total weight, according to the New York Times.
