Ahmed Zayat, who was born in Cairo, Egypt and now lives in Teaneck, turns 53 on Monday.

Zayat, a horse racing entrepreneur and the owner of Zayat Stables, was born Aug. 31, 1962.

Zayat held an interest in horses at an early age, as he ran horses at his local country club in Cairo.

After graduating from college in the United States and working in both the U.S. and Egypt, he bought his first horse in 2005, forming Zayat Stables in the process.

He is the owner of American Pharoah, the first horse to win horse racing's Triple Crown since 1978. American Pharoah won all three races that make up the Triple Crown — the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes — in spring 2015.
