Murder: Ex-Con Charged With Cold-Blooded Killing Of Popular Paterson Street Vendor

𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: A dragnet was tightening when an ex-con surrendered to Paterson police for shooting and killing a beloved street vendor in broad daylight, authorities said.

Mercedes turned himself in at police headquarters around 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announced Saturday afternoon.

Mercedes shot Robinson multiple times, they said, at East 24th Street and Broadway -- exactly two blocks from the corner where the late street vendor was a familiar and friendly face while selling DVDs, CDs, clothing and more.

Valdes and Abbassi didn’t suggest a motive, nor did they say what type and caliber of firearm that Mercedes allegedly used.

Robinson was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he died two days later.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Bridgeway Community Church, 381 Haledon Avenue, Haledon, following visitation that begins at the church at 12:30 p.m.
