Teaneck Workshop Preps Locals For Storytelling Nights

TEANECK, N.J. -- If you've got an interesting story to tell -- or you have one but aren't quite sure you can get up in public and tell it -- an upcoming workshop wants to help you hone your storytelling skills.

Bob Gordon will facilitate a storytelling workshop on Saturday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Nov. 5, to help people develop their personal stories, of around 15 minutes, about real events that shaped their lives in meaningful ways.

His workshop will be based on his Moth development training.

If you're not familiar with the Moth, it facilitates live storytelling. Here's its mission statement, from its Facebook page:

The Moth is dedicated to promoting the art of storytelling. We celebrate the ability of stories to honor the diversity and commonality of human experience, and to satisfy a vital human need for connection. We do so by helping our storytellers to shape their stories and to share them with the community at large. One goal of The Moth is to present the finest storytellers among established and emerging writers, performers and artists; another is to encourage storytelling among populations whose stories often go unheard.

Bring an idea for your story, and you'll prepare it for possible presentation at an upcoming "Do Tell! Story Night." They'll begin Friday, Nov. 11.

This workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ethical Culture Society, 687 Larch Ave., in Teaneck.
