Thief Steals Vehicle With Sleeping Infant Inside In Essex County: Sheriff An infant was reunited with his father after a thief jumped behind the wheel of a vehicle he was sleeping in on Monday, Nov. 14 in Essex County, authorities said. The thief stole the car from the area of Joyce Street and Scotland Road in Orange, around 5:50 p.m., moments before the baby's parent called 911, Essex County Sheriff Armando B. Fontoura said. Pickup Truck Driver Hospitalized After Crashing Into Wall At Busy Dover Intersection (Photos) A pickup truck driver was freed and taken to a nearby hospital after crashing into a wall at a busy intersection in Dover, authorities said. The Dover Fire Department responded to the crash at the intersection of West Blackwell and Prospect streets on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 28. Crew members stabilized the truck and extricated the driver by pushing the cab back with hydraulic tools, the department said. Residents Hospitalized, Dog Rescued In Morris County New Year's Day House Fire Several residents were hospitalized and a dog was rescued in a Morris County house fire on New Year’s Day, authorities said. Fire crews responded to the blaze at a 4-family home in Dover around 4:30 a.m., according to the Dover FMBA. Firefighters stretched a supply line and worked to douse the flames, which engulfed both the interior and exterior of the home, the fire company said. Update: 8 Saint Clare’s ER Patients Evacuated Due To Mechanical Fire, Heavy Smoke Eight patients were evacuated from the emergency room of Saint Clare’s Hospital in Denville due to heavy smoke conditions from a mechanical fire Monday afternoon, authorities said. The fire broke out in an air handler on the roof due to a mechanical failure around 12 p.m. Monday, Denville Police Capt. Jeffrey Tucker said. Once the fire was doused, the heavy smoke spread through a portion of the building and led to patients’ evacuation, Tucker said. Firefighters Battle Sussex County Barn Blaze For Hours A barn blaze that broke out in Hardyston took several hours to be extinguished. Flames were shooting out of a barn behind 215 North Church Road when firefighters arrived around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The fire quickly climbed to a second alarm as Hardyston companies battled with assistance from Mcafee, Lafayette, Ogdensburg, Franklin, Hamburg, Vernon, Pochuck Valley, Sussex and West Milford. Firefighters stayed at the scene digging up hay until around 1 a.m., to make sure the blaze wouldn't reignite. Glenwood Pochuck EMS and St. Clares EMS also responded, although no injuries were reported.
