Two drivers from Wayne were injured in a head-on crash that Oakland police said was caused when one of them tried to light a cigarette. The distracted 58-year-old smoker crossed the double-yellow line on Ramapo Valley Road, where her KIA slammed into a Honda Pilot driven by a 65-year-old township woman in front of the Oakland Diner, Capt. Timothy Keenan said. The smoker was extricated by firefighters because the front fender of the KIA had been pushed into the driver's side door, jamming it shut, Keenan said. A fugitive from New York had just left a Bergen County pharmacy with a bag full of stolen merchandise when he found his getaway driver gone -- and police there instead, authorities said. A UPS driver told Oakland police that both men had approached him on the street a short time earlier. A 20-year-old former high school cross-country runner from Oakland burglarized three borough businesses and attempted to break into at least five others, authorities said Tuesday. A 76-year-old West Milford woman who was struck by a sedan in Oakland early Friday night died shortly after arriving at the hospital, authorities said. Nina Weil was trying to cross Ramapo Valley Road near the intersection of Elm Street when she was struck around 6:30 p.m. by a 2006 Toyota Corolla operated by a 67-year-old Orange County, NY driver, police Lt.
