Newton House Fire Halsted Street Eleven people were displaced by a massive fire Easter weekend in Sussex County, officials said. Multiple fire companies responded to 39 Halsted St. in Newton around 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 30 for a house fire with possible entrapment, responders said. It was later determined that no one was inside the home. A 46-year-old Newton subcontractor was arrested after he uninstalled garage doors following an argument with a contractor on Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Byram Township, police said. Officers responded to a report of stolen garage doors at a residence on Ranger Trail when they discovered Vincent Sciroppo, the subcontractor had absconded with the garage doors following the tiff, police said. Sciroppo was charged with burglary and theft and released pending a court date.
