Anthony Rossi, a Republican, was elected the new mayor of the township, defeating Harry Shortway and Sally Rinker with 53.3 percent of the vote. Rossi will be replacing Howard Burrell, who served one term. A native of New York City, Rossi moved to Vernon following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, raising his three children in the township.
