Pockets of West Nile Virus were reported this week in Sussex County, officials said. Officials in Hampton Township on Aug. 17 confirmed West Nile Virus (WNV) in its adult mosquito population. Four days later, Sussex County officials said its mosquito control division was working to "steadily to neutralize pockets of virus activity detected in the county." Pedestrian, 25, Struck By Car In Sussex County: State Police
A pedestrian was struck by a car in Sussex County Monday afternoon, state police said. A 25-year-old was hit by a Hyundai Kona on Route 206 S. at the entrance to the shopping center in front of the McDonald’s in Hampton Township just before 1 p.m., NJSP Sgt. Alejandro Goez told DailyVoice.com. The woman was taken to Newton Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Goez said. The Hyundai driver was not hurt in the accident, which remained under investigation.

Toyota Driver Hospitalized In 2-Car Crash On Route 206, State Police Say
A Toyota driver was hospitalized following a Friday afternoon crash on Route 206, state police said. A Ford Focus collided with a Toyota Highlander in the southbound lane near milepost 111.5 in Hampton Township around 12:20 p.m., NJSP Trooper Alejandro Goez told Daily Voice. Both drivers complained of minor injuries, and the Toyota driver was taken to Newton Hospital for additional treatment, authorities said. The scene was clear by 2 p.m. following the crash, which remains under investigation, Goez said.

New Jersey State Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a man and woman they say stole numerous purses at a Sussex County Walmart and used the credit cards inside. State Police: Girl, 5, Airlifted After Sussex County SUV Crash
A 5-year-old was airlifted after two SUVs collided on Route 519 in Sussex County Monday afternoon, state police said. The driver of a Honda Pilot crossed the center line and hit a Toyota Rav 4 near milepost 69 on Route 519 in Hampton Township just before 4:10 p.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry told Daily Voice. A 5-year-old girl was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Curry said. The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.

Police Seek Sussex County Shooting Suspect
New Jersey State Police are on the lookout for a Sussex County shooting suspect. Shots were fired near Halsey Road and Garrett Drive in Hampton Township around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, June 1, authorities said in a release. Upon arrival, officers saw a white man, identified as Jacob Drelich, 26, of Newton, walking northbound on Halsey Road, as well as a nearby street sign that had been spray painted with the letters "BLM," authorities said. Firefighters Battle Hampton Township House Fire
An elderly woman suffered burns to her hand in a fire that ravaged a Hampton Township house Tuesday, authorities said. Emergency vehicles lined Westbrook Lane to fight the second-alarm blaze, which broke out around 4:30 p.m., the Sussex County Fire Wire reported on Facebook. A firefighter got his foot stuck climbing up the stairs of the deck the house while fighting the blaze but swiftly pulled it out and got right back to work, fellow firefighters said. Motorcyclist, 49, Airlifted In Sussex County Crash, State Police Say
A 49-year-old motorcyclist was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries in a Hampton Township crash, authorities said. The Highland Lakes man was headed northbound on Hamptonhouse Road on his Harley Davidson when he was struck by a Honda sedan -- headed in the same direction -- just after 12 p.m. Monday, New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said.
