Scott Bartlett, Navy Veteran, Sussex County First Responder, Dies At 49 Scott Bartlett, who spent many years in Vernon volunteering as a first responder, died on Friday, Dec. 29 at the age of 49 in Honolulu, according to his obituary on the Pinkel Funeral Home website. Barlett was born in Ridgewood and moved to Vernon, his obituary reads. He served in the Navy from 1993 to 1997 as a disaster recovery specialist, according to his obituary. After leaving the navy, he served in the Pochuck Volunteer Fire Department, as an EMS tech for the Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and as a dispatcher for the Pequannock Police Department. 2-Alarm Fire Rips Through Sussex County Home (Photos) A two-alarm fire tore through and destroyed a Sussex County home late Thursday, authorities confirmed. The Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to Storm Estates in Vernon and "immediately" requested a second alarm upon seeing flames billowing from the back of the structure, the department said. With help from numerous surrounding fire and EMS crews, the blaze was brought under control while additional members provided station coverage. Authorities Investigating Sussex County Fire The cause of a two-alarm fire at a vacant home early Saturday morning in Sussex County remained under investigation hours later. Flames shot out of a vacant two-story home behind Ballyowen Golf Club on Wheatsworth Road just after 4:40 a.m. The fire rose to two alarms, bringing firefighters from Franklin, McAfee Pochuck Valley and Hamburg to the scene.  The blaze was under control by 6:40 a.m., fire officials said. Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Saint Clare’s Emergency Medical Services also responded.

The blaze started around 9:40 a.m. at a dry cleaning business in the Route 23 strip mall and was under control by 10:30 a.m., New Jersey State Police said.
