When the NJSIAA realigned the football conferences prior to the 2016 season, it created several new alignments, and some odd geographic match-ups.
At the halfway point of the season, it is time to a look at how the Passaic County schools are impacting the division races in the 2016 North Jersey Super Conference.
Freedom White -- Wayne Valley (1-0 division, 6-0 overall) and Wayne Hills (1-0, 5-1) are battling with Irvington (1-0, 5-0) in a division that has seen a lot of out of division play so far. Passaic Valley (1-1, 3-2) also has a shot at the top once the league starts rolling on divisional games, which happens this week. Valley is coming off a win versus highly regarded Northern Highlands (4-1) and travel to Irvington in what should be one of the best games of the weekend. Hills rolled past PV last weekend, 42-14, and has not lost a game in state this year. Valley and Hills meet Oct. 28 in Wayne’s version of the Civil War, with more than just bragging rights on the line.
American Red -- Lakeland (2-1) will need a little help to capture the title here, as it currently sits in third place after a 21-3 loss to Newton. They do have first place Lenape Valley (2-0, 4-1) coming up, as well as games with Wallkill Valley (1-3, 0-1) and tradition rival West Milford (0-4.)
United White – DePaul has yet to play a league game and is 1-4 overall, having beaten Hudson Catholic, 42-7, two weeks ago. They will finish with their three divisional opponents, Delbarton (1-1, 2-3), Seton Hall Prep (0-2, 0-5) and Pope John (2-0, 3-2) before ending their season with St. Joseph’s (Montvale.)
Liberty Red -- Ridgewood (3-0, 5-0 leads a pair of Passaic County schools in Passaic County Tech (3-0, 4-1) and Eastside (2-1, 2-2). Ridgewood drubbed Passaic (0-3, 0-4), 67-6, this past week, and has a game against division bottom-dweller Bergen Tech (0-5, 0-3) Friday. Passaic Tech (3-0, 4-1) has won four straight after losing to Montclair to start the season. It will host the Maroons Oct. 28. Eastside has toughest road to the top, traveling to Wayne to play PCT Oct. 21 before going to Ridgewood Nov. 4.
