Kids going into K-2 should read 10 books; kids entering third through fifth grade should read three. Kids' independent reading levels will be determined by the end of the year, and listed books for ascending first- through fifth-graders are listed by level.

Sixth- through eighth-graders must read two novels and do a "graphic organizer" for each, to submit to their teachers in September. High school students are to pick one book and do one of the listed assignments for it, and honors English students at the high schools are to read two.
