Paterson Charter School Valedictorian Accepted To Cornell

PATERSON, N.J. -- Nicole Garcia, the 2016 valedictorian for Paterson Charter School for Science & Technology’s, has been accept to Cornell University this fall.

Garcia is a member of the National Honors Society. She has been actively involved in the Silk City Stars Drama Club, Animal Rights Club, the World is Our Classroom Club and the Embrace Relief Club.

She is also the published author of a collection of original poems, "which covers matters ranging from chaotic relationships to self acceptance," a news release notes. "It exemplifies feelings of betrayal, heartache, nostalgia and self affirmation, as perceived by the teenage mind."

Garcia plans to major in nutrition science, with a focus on dietetics, with a goal of becoming a dietician and joining the Peace Corps.

Cornell is one of eight institutions in the United States that is considered Ivy League. The others are Brown University, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University.

"Nicole is an excellent student and role model here at Paterson Charter School for Science & Technology," said Riza Gurcanli, school lead. "We could not be more proud of her accomplishments over the past four years and are excited to see what her future holds."
