Passaic Mayor Dr. Alex Blanco participated in the welcome that students, under the leadership of Superintendent Pablo Muñoz and members of the board of education, prepared for Middle States.

Talented students were on display as the Middle States Team was welcomed by the Passaic High School Choir. In addition, the superintendent and the board of education introduced the district focus.

The Passaic Public Schools are working on providing every student with an opportunity to graduate from high school with a career certification and/or a minimum of 15 college credits.

In order to accomplish this goal, Passaic Schools are focused on the following:

  • Developing an early college program in partnership with Passaic County Community College
  • Updating the program of studies to reflect courses that provide dual-enrollment credit
  • Implementing eight new advanced placement courses in 2015-16
  • Pursuing grant funding, such as recently being awarded the Career and College Readiness Grant from the NJ Department of Education for $250,000
  • Developing pathways to help students better plan for the future and align high school experiences with college and career planning and exploration.
