Students act as vice principal for part of the day as a reward for the Shooting Stars program, which promotes positive behavior.

The school had a code of conduct policy for years but this marked the first for Shooting Stars, Little Falls School No. 2 Principal Nina Pearsall said.

"We have noticed an improvement in our students behavior this year," Pearsall told Daily Voice. "Students hold the door for others, help friends clean up, pick kind words, and make other responsible choices."

Stars stands for, "Stay safe, Tell the truth, Act responsibly, Remember to listen, and Show respect." When a staffer sees a student follow one of those principles, they get a star sticker.

At the end of each month, all the stars each student received goes into a raffle for six winning entries, two from each grade.

The winners each pick a reward such as making the morning announcements or a seasonal activity, but vice principal for part of the day was most popular, Pearsall said.

The VP's for the day wear an official name tag, greet other students at assemblies and monitor classwork.

Since they have an important job that day, students and staff call the temporary administrators by their last name and they typically come to school wearing professional attire, Pearsall said.

"We recognize that our role as educators is more than teaching students academics," she said. "We are responsible for teaching students how to be productive and respectful citizens."
