David Correa was found guilty of attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said on Tuesday.

Correa's ex-girlfriend testified that he hit her in the head with the bat, dragged her to her car and tried to force her inside, Valdes said.

He then stuffed the wig she was wearing into her mouth to muffle her cries for help, the prosecutor said.

Correa fled when neighbors saw him, she said. Police found the bloodied baseball bat, two sets of handcuffs and a backpack with Correa's cellphone in it at the scene, Valdes said.

Correa was being held in the Passaic County Jail pending a scheduled April 1 sentencing, she said.
