Tim Wheeler, a 22-year veteran of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office and president of Local 197 of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association, said he should have picked up his private vehicle before picking up his son, said NorthJersey.com.

Wheeler also acknowledged he "nodded off" while driving on Route 22 in Springfield around 12:30 a.m. when the vehicle hit a pole, reported NorthJersey.com

Bill Maer, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said an internal investigation will determine if any departmental rules or regulations were violated, NorthJersery.com added.
