Reports that an officer was struck by gunfire were erroneous police said.

The trio took a Ford Focus at gunpoint on Monroe Street, Detective Andy White told Daily Voice.

A short time later, an officer began chasing the vehicle south on Route 21.

The Focus crashed near the Route 3 westbound exit in Clifton, he said.

A handgun was recovered during the arrests, White said.

The officer who fired the round was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Another officer who sustained injuries that White said weren't life-threatening was also hospitalized.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office was reviewing the circumstances and will identify those arrested, while providing more information tomorrow.
