Motorcyclist Arrested In Wayne After Attempting To Flee Traffic Stop

WAYNE, N.J. -- A Motorcyclist was arrested in Wayne on Tuesday after speeding past stopped school buses and attempting to evade a traffic stop, according NJ.com.

Laurance "Spike" Varelis, 31, of Haledon was allegedly operating his black Yamaha recklessly, prompting Wayne Police to initiate a traffic stop. Varelis allegedly pulled over, but as the officer exited his vehicle, the suspect sped off, passing the buses, NJ.com reported. 

Varelis allegedly crashed his motorcycle in his attempt to evade authorities and proceeded to flee on foot. Varelis allegedly resisted arrest, but was subdued by officers. He was charged with criminal eluding, resisting arrest and 14 other motor vehicle summonses, NJ.com said.
