Inmate Commits Apparent Suicide In Passaic County Jail Cell

PATERSON, N.J. — An inmate was found dead Tuesday morning from an apparent suicide in a Passaic County Jail cell, authorities said.

The inmate was pronounced dead at 5:35 a.m. at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center after being found alone and unresponsive in his cell, Passaic County Sheriff's Office spokesman William J. Maer said.

Passaic County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Division continued to examine the incident, Maer said.

The inmate was in jail on weapons possession, theft and burglary charges, the spokesman said.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the inmate's family," Maer said.
