Garberdina Nywening, 94, Of North Haledon

NORTH HALEDON, N.J. -- Garberdina Nywening, 94, of North Haledon, died Thursday, Oct. 27. 

She was born and raised in Midland Park and lived in Wyckoff for 67 years before moving to North Haledon earlier this year. 

Nywening was a beautician for Mary Amelia in Ridgewood before dedicating her time to caring and raising her own family. 

She was a member of Midland Park Christian Reformed Church and was involved in many of the activities there, including The Friendship Circle, the Esther Quilting Group, a member of the choir and was a Pioneer Girls Leader. She also was a member of the auxiliary for the Christian Health Care Center. She loved to quilt, do bobbin lace, knit, sew and do crafts.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Holmes; grandson, Michael Holmes and his wife, Kristen; granddaughter, Laura Smith and her husband Don; and great-grandson, Adam Henry Holmes. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Tunis; and two brothers, Martin and John Van Der Meer. 

The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m.
