WOODLAND PARK, N.J. -- Passaic County freeholders dedicated the Depression-era Barbour Pond boathouse Saturday to Pasquale “Pat” Di Ianni, a civic leader who dedicated much of his life to promoting county parks and historic sites.

Di Ianni was a Clifton attorney whose pride in the Great Falls led him him to the floor of Congress, where he testified in favor of creating the Paterson-Great Falls National Historical Park. The historic park was approved by President Obama in 2010.

The boathouse in Garret Mountain Reservation has recently been restored to its original condition. It is a charming stone structure of two pillars with cedar roof and railings, and space below for boats. Family and friends gathered with county dignitaries for the dedication ceremony.

Di Ianni was also the driving force behind the Passaic County Fair, held each summer atop Garret Mountain.
